There is a place I visit sometimes.
It is both beautiful and frightening.
Upon entering, it is relaxing and calm.
It is just what you hoped it would be.
It is peaceful.
But it is not a place you want to linger.
After a while, you notice details you didn’t see upon arrival.
They are details you didn’t want to notice.
You only saw what you needed.
Now you open your eyes to what is there and see.
Secrets are hidden everywhere.
Shadows are lurking around the corners.
The reality from when you arrived has shifted away from perfection.
It is no longer relaxing; the peace has turned into chaos.
A chaos you cannot escape.
It becomes overwhelming and you want to leave.
But leaving this place is difficult.
It requires strength to walk away.
The curiosity of it all is inviting.
You want to know about everything, without admitting you know anything at all.
It is all too much though.
You know you have to leave.
You have to escape before the chaos swallows you.
If that happens, you will be trapped.
So you walk to the edge of the chaos.
You reach out,
searching for the present.
You find it, and hope that you can keep a tight grasp on it.
Hope that you do not drift to that place again.
There is a place I visit sometimes.
It is both beautiful and frightening.
Some believe it is a perfect place.
But others know the truth of what lies under the surface.
There is a place I visit sometimes.
It is both beautiful and frightening.
Each visit is different from the last.
You must expect the unexpected.
And hope that you can escape once again
